we're holding the line against the siege

About

We are becoming increasingly alarmed about the rhetoric coming from the right. It has crossed the line from partisan posturing to demagoguery. The only way to combat misinformation is with more information–information that is factual. Although the reality-based citizens far outnumber those in the fringe, their willingness to sensationalize through the use of offensive imagery, racial slurs, and threats of violence garners far more attention from today’s media empires, from which much of the journalism has been purged. The Internet is becoming the last bastion for intelligent discourse, the last place for people to go for real information, and the only way for reality-based voices to be heard.

Over the years, we have gone from independents willing to consider the qualities of an individual candidate to dedicated democratic voters, if for no other reason than to keep our country free of political ideologues determined to impose religion-based laws on the nation and cheerlead the dumbing down of the American public. Only conservatives would denigrate graduates of our finest American institutions as “elitists,” and desire leaders with whom they’d like to have a beer. Only conservatives would elevate the Joe Six-Packs and Joe Plumbers to pedestals while denigrating experienced jurists and politicians who have demonstrated academic excellence.

We believe in the Declaration of Independence, which declares all people equal, as opposed to a party filled primarily with older white men who view their perspective as the status quo and everyone else’s as an abominable deviation. We reject the hypocrisy of a party that holds itself out as the authority on moral values even as its members cheat on their wives and sell their votes to big business.

Eventually, the Republican Party will discriminate itself out of existence, as it alienates women, Latinos, African Americans, and others with its discriminatory policies and dogmatic principles. Until then, we remain confident that the side we have decided to stand on is the better one.
