we're holding the line against the siege

Glenn Beck Tea Party FAIL

I apologize for the silence from Debunker Hill, but we’ve had a bit of H1N1 (swine flu) in the household. Fortunately, bed rest gave me alot of time to watch the news, and I saw a lot of coverage of the teabbagger’s march to the White House on 9-12. This is all part of the Glenn Beck project, started last year. The idea, according to Beck, is to recapture that feeling we all had on September 12, the day after the Twin Towers came down. Based on the images from the marchers, that was apparently intense hatred for the president, a desire for secession and revolution, and extreme paranoia.

The marchers, encouraged by fringe right wing sources like Michelle Malkin and Freedom Works president Matt Kibbe, have hyperinflated their numbers from 1.5 million to 2 million. Malkin started the trend early in the morning, claiming that this was the number announced on ABC News. ABC vigorously denies ever having made such a claim and puts the figure at 60,000 to 70,000, and other news organizations described attendance as “tens of thousands.”

Matt Kibbe later apologized for spreading the wrong figures:

In his blog, Kibbe apologized Sunday for the mistaken attribution of the crowd-size estimated to ABC News. “With a dead IPhone, I had been shown tweets from a number of different folks behind the stage citing the ABC estimate,” he wrote. “They didn’t say it. I regret misrepresenting the network, as their coverage that day was fair and honest.”

It is too late to undo the damage, however, because the conservatives refuse to believe anything that is not coming from Fox “News.” They say the numbers are being falsely suppressed because all media except Fox are in cahoots with the Obama administration. This is one paranoid, crazy group.

I made a video tribute to the event, which will likely be taken down off of YouTube because they have little appreciation for “Fair Use” in satire:

I’m not a movie expert, and this is only my second foray into videomaking, so I apologize for some of the sloppiness.

I am also including a few images of the day’s festivities that did not make it into the video. In case there is any doubt where these people get their (lack of) information:

It is more than a bit ironic that these are the people screaming about Van Jones signing a statement demanding that there be an investigation into whether the Bush administration allowed 9/11 to happen (something I do not believe), yet here they are saying that Obama wants to “help” the terrorists against America.

There is no shortage of hypocrisy in that party. Many had signs threatening revolution; unfortunately for them, 60,000 (many children, elderly, and seriously obese/out of shape) is not likely going to be a strong enough fighting force.
